The resistive element of Carbon Composition Resistors (CCR) exists out of the complete body, which is a mixture of fine carbon particles and ceramic material. They are not often used because of their high price combined with low accuracy and stability. However, their capability to overload and good high frequency properties makes them still popular for certain applications such as welding controls.
